My Dad Makes Funny Noises
Burpety burp
My old dad’s from a different culture where people burp out loud.
Throughout my life, he’s burped at home and changed the noises exploding from his mouth into interesting sound bites.
During one period, he was doing a “Bowwww!”.
It was puzzling when I first heard it, but who am I to say that he should burp in a specific way?
That carried on for a while.
At another point, he added a “Boom boom!” at the end of them.
Live and let live I say.
My only problem was when he would do one in the car. As a kid, I imagined inhaling his burp. I’d open the window.
One summer, some years back, I was on a coach trip with my parents. The driver stopped at a roadside cafe for a break, and my dad and I sat outside on a bench, next to a group of middle-aged women.
All at once, he let out a humongous, growly, “Owww!”.
The women looked at him and scrunched up their faces in disgust. Everyone got up and looked at me as if I was also a perpetrator, and left.
